Step 1: Find the Problem (0:21)
First, identify where the mistake is happening in the piece.

Step 2: Work on Each Hand Separately (0:26)

  1. Play the troublesome part with your right hand only, saying each note's name.
  2. Repeat with your left hand.

This helps you focus on one thing at a time.

Step 3: Add the Counting (0:42)
Now, play the part again, this time counting the beats out loud to get the rhythm right.

Step 4: Practice Makes Perfect (0:50)
Try to play the section correctly five times in a row. This builds accuracy and confidence.

Step 5: From the Top (1:04)

  1. Start playing from the beginning of the piece.
  2. If you make a mistake in the same spot, go back to Step 3 and 4.
  3. If it’s a new mistake, identify and isolate it, then repeat Steps 2, 3, and 4.

Common Beginner Mistakes (1:40)
Let's also talk about some common pitfalls and how to avoid them.

  1. Starting Over Too Much (1:55)
Don't always begin at the start after a mistake. Instead, work on fixing the problem area first.

  2. Speeding Up (2:09)
If you play something wrong, slow down immediately. Speed can come later, after you’ve mastered the notes.

  3. Feeling Tense and Frustrated (2:15)
When frustration kicks in, take a deep breath, maybe have a glass of water, and then calmly follow the steps again.

Remember, making mistakes is a normal part of learning piano. The key is to approach them with patience and a strategy, as we've discussed today. Happy practicing!
