Jazz-Blues Foundations

Module 14 takes you deeper into jazz by exploring the jazz-blues genre, a perfect starting point for jazz beginners. This style uses a single blues scale for improvisation, making it easier to handle even as chords change quickly.

Here’s how we’ll progress:

  1. Start improvising with the blues scale.
  2. Introduce jazz elements gradually, mixing blues with simple jazz techniques.
  3. Increase the jazz content slowly until you can comfortably mix both styles in your playing.

We’ll also practice crafting walking bass lines, playing scales with bass lines or rootless voicings, and keeping your left hand steady during improvisations.

By the end of this module, you’ll be comfortable playing blues in various keys and styles, from traditional to modern jazz-blues, and ready for more complex jazz challenges. This module sets a solid foundation for your growth in jazz.
